You're right. Any excitement of sense of momentum I was feeling at the beginning just went Pfft as soon as they got to Hogsmeade. Not that there was much to start with. I thought it was just because it was at that point I started to notice things that were being left out (Ariana) and because I felt let-down by how wrong Kloves got Neville but thinking about it, it was definitely the pacing as well.
I haven't seen the second movie yet, but the last book read like an action movie. It needed a screenwriter and director who had experience in that genre and I don't think they guys selected were up to the task.
I totally agree with thee pacing thing and Yates unfathomable adoration for the dramatic pause where his actors just stand there and look awkward. I HATE IT! That being said, I guess I'm willing to overlook them for the fact that it's over...and that reveres this movie for me. I will never be able to look at it and not feel attached...no matter how hard Yates tried to dissuade me--and he did--a lot.
THANK YOU!!! That's exactly how I felt but hadn't been able to express it that succinctly. The scenes were well done but never really melded together as they should have.
