Yes to all of this. Especially the liking it for sentimental reasons if nothing else. I could pick it apart with all points you made and further articulate my likes and dislikes, but BOOOOOOORING! I'll just agree with yours. :))

(Remember that setup because there will be no payoff.)This is my problem with HBP (the movie). We have these fantastic scenes of Draco looking like he's descending into madness as he tries these various spells on this vanishing cabinet, and then for what? So Bellatrix can dance around Hogwarts. She manages to set Hagrid's hut on fire, but still, what was the point of them being there? Oh, and the explosion of the Burrow, the hell ( ... )

Didn't catch the significance of the Lightning has struck bit. Maybe since this move (and part one) are the only HP movies I haven't seen at least twice, which makes me kind of sad somehow, that I don't have that desire to go out and see it again. :(

And I HAAAAATED the destruction of the Burrow, because it was so pointless and without consequence. Nobody ever mentions it again and it's rebuilt in DH1. No line from Hermione like "Gee, Ron, I know we're not talking but it's terrible that your home was destroyed." Just stupid.

Ohhhh, interesting. I actually always love the movies (except part one which was dead boring) and my biggest objection (though I had many) weren't things you mentioned.

Cut to a scene where the school is assembled in front of Snape who speaks very, very slowly-I think Rickman may have been having a laugh with the director to see how slow he could get away with speaking. The answer is very slow.

Okay, this made me laugh because it really was a bit ridiculous. And have you seen this video?

Why did Snape call the assembly?

Snape announced that Harry had been seen in Hogsmeade, not Hogwarts. Depending on what color hat you believe him to be wearing at the time, he was warning students and staff not to offer him aide if/when he arrived at Hogwarts (bad guy) OR he was letting the students who were not part of the DA (the majority) know that Harry was still alive and possibly about to save them all and when the fighting started they should be hopeful (good guy).

Why, if the DA was in hiding, as those hammocks and sleeping bags in ( ... )

I had not scene that video. Except maybe he still talks a little fast compared to Rickman. :P

I think we're going to have to disagree on Snape's assembly (and the tears).

Re: Fred's death. Was Percy even there at all?

Molly-Bellatrix fight was not awesome the way a Molly/Bellatrix fight should have been. I like to think they'd hooked up at Hogwarts in a hate-sex kind of way (Molly was the aggressor) and so their fight had this extra little layer of meaning.

That's totally canon I'm sure.

I thought Molly and Bellatrix was OK but then it wasn't my favourite scene in the book so I didn't have high expectations.

Snape's memory tears was weird and vaguely stomach-turning. It's not like we hadn't seen memories being siphoned off in the movies before...I just don't geddit. I've re-read bits of DH recently and there is a lot of detail that couldn't possibly have been covered. I read that Kloves thought DH could have been three movies and I think there's enough there for an entire TV series. I'm not forgiving him for the way he changed what Voldemort and Bellatrix said to Neville though - no excuse for that, or for the excision of "I'll join you when hell freezes over" *is partisan*

My expectations have lowered with every movie since GoF but I think this one was a particular let-down because it was the last one. The acting was really good though.

I didn't even mention Kloves but I think he was the worst thing to happen to the movies.

Patricia actually said, when Hermione and Ron were running from Nagini, "Oh, no, is Hermione going to kill Nagini?"

Which, with Kloves, would have been entirely possible.
