They've already announced book 3 will be divided into two movies. I think this is a shame as I found book 3 to be the least interesting of the trilogy. And I am sick to death of final books being divided into two movies just because they did it with Harry Potter. Personally, I'd have rather seen book 5 made into 2 movies for HP. But there is no reason why Breaking Dawn needed two movies.
I never found Gale appealing in either the movie or the books, but I agree that most of the acting was solid.
I talked about this a bit more last week but I thought Catching Fire was the weakest of the three.
I guess once HP showed it was more profitable than a single movie they'll continue to do it until such point that it becomes obviously less profitable. Which sucks. I can only hope that, since they did expand on the story in HG, maybe they'll do so to make two worthwhile movies for the final.
Depression-era District 12. I get what they were aiming for, but it was just too obvious, looking like they plucked those scenes from The Grapes of Wrath or something. All Look How Poor This District Is! And it made the futuristic TV projectors seem way out of place.
I felt like they could have done so much better with that too. It's not that the district is just poor, it's that they are kept poor. They mine resources and get to keep nothing for themselves. I don't feel like the movie explained adequately the level of policing there is in the districts and how watching the games is compulsory. You don't get enough food to eat, but every family has a screen to watch The Hunger Games.
Good point. I guess for the most basic element of the plot-kids are chosen to fight to death-this stuff is pretty secondary. But I wonder what the experience of people who haven't read the books is, when they watch the movie? Do they get that Districts 11 and 12 are kept poor?
