I miss the active LJ days too, but I was never that active and I drifted away when things got busy, so I'm part of the problem.

It's really great to hear from you, and this update is fascinating. I want to go to SE Asia, if I ever scrape together the money. Sorry to hear that the language barrier is an issue - it must feel isolating. But good on you for making the effort to push out of the ex-pat comfort zone. I look back to when we lived in the UAE and I'm so glad now that my parents were interested in getting to know the local area and we were weren't confined to the expat community like a lot of kids. Do you have any idea yet how long you might be staying/want to stay in HK?

I wrote a story set in Hong Kong and did *a lot* of research. I'm so glad to hear about your experiences that validated a lot of conclusions I came to - they are of China but still separate in so many ways. What an interesting history and combination of cultures. How much longer are you going to stay?

This is so cool!

It is frustrating feeling like lj is drifting away. I check it, but I think I used to really feed off the conversation. Now I don't have things to say or feel like things I do have to say will want to be heard!
