Personally.. if it was me, I would go by myself, because I just like to drive and explore (with lots of directions).

It's no help, because I'm sure that you are doing this, but just judge what you feel for this guy and how he makes you feel. I mean, if you are going to be comfortable enough with him and you sense a good vibe, then maybe you should take him. *shrugs*

But take pepper spray :-) LOL. Either way.
