Wanted: Audiobook Recs

May 25, 2016 12:41

My commute to and from work is about 25 mins each way and since January I've been listening to audiobooks non-stop. I finished the HP series and then moved on to JK's other novels and the Cormoran Strike series. I had downloaded a couple other ones that sounded promising but I cannot get past the narrator's voice and style. I couldn't listen for ( Read more... )

Oh, heck, you HAVE to listen to Alexis Hall's m/m on audiobook. My favourite of his is For Real (sorry if the UK amazon links don't work for you), which is an amazing and kinky cross-gen story, but Glitterland is also fabulous - I preferred it as an audiobook to the print copy, because the narrator did such a lovely job with Ash, who I found hard to read on paper.

Alexis' books are SO wonderful - I highly recommend him - and I hardly ever listen to audiobooks, but these ones are super. <3

I have Glitterland in my Wish List! I don't know where I heard about it, maybe on here. But now that someone has seconded that recommendation I'm gonna go for it!

I just listened to the samples and the very first thing said in For Real was "I hadn't had time to slip into a collar yet..." and I about fell out of my chair. Of course YOU recced this!! ;)

I like the narrator voice better in Glitterland so I'm going with that. Who knew I had an aural kink?!? I think I really need Draco to narrate an Auror story. ;)

I just started Glitterland and Ash just went home with Essex when I got to work. Gah! I think I'll skip out and listen more on my lunch break. I'm loving it so far! Thanks for the rec!

Oh gosh, Darrian (Essex) is so brilliant. I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

For Real is absolutely my favourite book of his, though. I may have mentioned, once or twice ;)

I've been listening to the Dresden Files (just finished with book two) and I really like them. The quality isn't the best ever, but I love James Marster's voice, and the books are really great.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda was really fucking cute. LGBT YA with an adorable narrator.

IDK how you feel about YA, and you mentioned really liking male narrators, but two of my favorite audiobook series are The Lunar Chronicles (Sci-Fi Fairy Tale Retelling) and Finishing School (SteamPunk Fantasy). Both with amazing female narrators, and each four books a piece. Oh, I also liked the Leviathan trilogy, which is YA Steampunk, but read by a British guy. :D

I listen to a lot of YA books because they tend to be less than 10 hours, and anything longer tends to drive me mad...

Oh, but I also listened to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books trilogy, which is mystery and brilliant! Three different narrators for each book, the first two are great, the third was awful.

As for m/m, I really liked the stories/narrators for Catch My Breath (sort of a ( ... )

I knew you could help me! I almost just tagged you directly. ;)

Lunar Chronicles has been on my to-read list for a while so I think I'll add it to my Audible queue instead. Do you recommend a certain one or better to read in order?

I'm going to listen to the samples of the m/m ones you listed and see which one I like!

Ooo yay! Lunar Chronicles was amazing! I'd definitely get them in order. It's the same narrator for each, and the books really build on one another. I also listened to "Fairest" which is a novella in between books 3 & 4, which I didn't love, but still fun to listen to.

Are you on Goodreads? I'm pretty obsessive about updating what I read on there and I have an audiobook shelf of all the books I've listened to. :)
