Jeremy and I made a fantastic dinner salad last night. For the dressing, I whisked strawberry jam, malt vinegar and olive oil together with some salt and pepper. It was lovingly drizzled over a salad of baby spinach, crumbed Gorgonzola, fresh sliced strawberries, and glazed walnuts. SO GOOD. It could have used some red onion but I did not have ( Read more... )

That salad sounds absolutely to die for. Somehow I've strayed from my Healthy and Varied eating plan, and wandered on over to the Whatever Nobody Else Wants From Work eating plan. It's great on my wallet but really really bad on my blood sugar.

And man, I miss Aussie Moist. That is the shit.

interesting.
because i also whisked together some strawberry jam with olive oil salt and pepper, but i used balsamic instead and threw in a little pepper jelly, and it turned out damn good. my greens were spinach and baby chard.

What balsamic do you use? I want a really dark and syrupy one. I have to admit I got the strawberry jam idea from Rachel Ray. Do you have any recipes for a poppy seed dressing?

there's one i have for every day use, which is like a 15 dollar balsamic, and aged 2 years. aceta reale, i think (i'm at work right now, so i'm trying to remember...)i also use the cheapass 3 dollar one which works fine for me (you know the one with the green label). i also have a 6 year aged one that's really syrup and a 10 year thats the real shit, got the seal and everything. if you buy the 10 yr, try a drop or two on vanilla ice cream.

oh shit!

try this:
dijon mustard
salt and pepper
some dry mustard
honey
sugar cane vinegar or rice vinegar
poppy seeds
whisk or blend these together as you're streaming in the olive oil until the fats get emulsified and you get a good suspension.

I used to use Aussie Moist when I bleached my hair to a crisp. I like it, but the smell is a little too sweety-sweet for me.
