① “Weigh anchor” is a nautical jargon for heaving up the anchor as a final preparation before setting sail. So this line means to set sail/take off.
② The original phrase is “gogoume” 五合目 - a “gou” is a checkpoint on a mountain-hiking trail, with a total of 10 checkpoints for every mountain. Hence the “fifth checkpoint” is metaphor for “halfway there”.
③ I didn’t get this metaphor myself so I looked for interpretations from Japanese fans. I found a blog that interpreted this bit as such:
- The protagonists liken themselves to freshwater fish living in a fish tank, because they live in a small world and are sheltered
- But never say never, even these sheltered fishies can fly anywhere!
④ Directly translated, this line (“kazashita no wa hi no saki ka” 翳したのは陽の先か) would be like “what we’ve held up high is the tip of the sun”, the same blog as in ③ interpreted it as how the “(literally) holding something up” is an expression to describe a goal.
