She is an Orange Belt in Karate. She is going into her third year of Ballet this Fall.

When did all this ( Read more... )

Tell her to go ask her Dad ;)

I'm a lot more lenient about piercings then Rob is so that will be an interesting day ;)

I just hope she's willing to wait until she's in her 20's for tattoos. Her big sister is studying to be a tattoo artist (waves to Acaciaxoxo) so hopefully we'll have an ace in the hole to help us deal with that one and make her understand that we really like tattoos but that she should wait until she is absolutely sure of what she wants and why. :D

You are TOO COOL to allow your first grader to have pink hair. Really :) I'm reasonably tolerant of piercings and tats, but my rule on tats is you have to be 18 -- for exactly the reason that it's a permanent (or mostly so these days, who knows by the time they're older) thing, and you should be sure of what you're choosing to emblazon on your body and why. Piercings... So long as they are not nose or mouth, I'll let most things go -- a tasteful eyebrow kind of thing, certainly ears multiple (no extenders of the holes while you live at home, I don't like 'em) ... but DO NOT put one of those things in your face while you live in my house. And if you do it after you leave, please have the courtesy to use a block when you come home, because I do not wish to stare at your tongue piercing over Thanksgiving dinner. Sorry, just a personal icky factor. :P

LOL :D

Well, since I currently have a nose piercing and a tongue piercing (I have had them for over a decade) and before that used to have a septum and a navel piercing, those would be very hard rules for me to instill ;)

I also have three tattoos (almost two decades old now...wow, I'm old) and I can't wait for my older daughter to give me more (I hear the artwork for my back is already done...but I haven't seen it yet...ahem, Acaciaxoxo) ;)

The thing about piercing is wherever they are, they can always be removed and all you have is a freckle size scar at most.

Tattoos and extenders, as you stated, are more permanent and I just want anyone getting them to make sure that that is really what they want forever; that that is how they want to be seen forever if it is a visible mark and to also be armed with the knowledge that if the marks are visible it sadly but honestly will narrow their job options in their future.

I have been outwardly judged by my markings before. I think it sucks.

*grin* Hope I didn't offend with my personal icky factor :) I know lots of people who have the nose and tongue piercings ... and I might eventually be sort of okay with the side of the nose ones. Maybe. That sort of grosses me out too at the moment. But again, it's a personal little issue -- I grew up in the military, so I've got a few of those weird little quirks that my kids will just have to live with :P Piercings, hair in the eyes, things like that. I'm okay with dying hair, but no matter how long it is, you will pull it back out of your face while you're at home talking to me :P I don't wanna talk to your hair, I wanna talk to your face.

It is a shame, though, that people are judged by their body art. My uncle was sleeved on both arms and had nearly a full back tat. Beautiful work, but it all had to be covered when he was at work. Ultimately I'm with you on the tats -- if you're going to do it, you need to be old enough and wise enough to understand how society as a whole views it and be ready for that.

Wow. Just think - another ten years and she'll be in high school, talking on the phone for hours on end, hanging out at the mall, refusing to acknowledge your existence on planet Earth except when requesting money.... ;)

WE MUST GEEKIFY HER WHILST WE STILL CAN!!!

Oh she's so adorable! She looks like Jewel Staite on that Nickelodeon show Space Cases!

That's really cool that you let her have short pink hair. Best mom ever? You just might be.
