I am reminded to post about my latest skin-care adventures. They went better than things I usually label as "adventures" do.

So I made scar cream, with everything I was thinking about. The cocoa butter was incredibly hard to work with, by virtue of being incredibly hard. Ok, not as hard as beeswax, but not "scoopable" out of the jar. I got ( Read more... )

Hi. I am in apothecarium as well and I found you. You appear to rock.
If you don't mind, I would like to friend you...and maybe steal a few icons. :)

That's cool. I think the general consensus on icons is the makers would like credit and/or a comment, depending on who made them. I usually do both to be safe. All of the ones I've made are fair game with credit, except the one about lesbians and tea and the other ones made from pictures of me...because that's just weird.

Hello! I found you off a comment on Midnytabandon's journal and thought I'd poke around...

...do you make skin care stuff often? Is it difficult? Where do you find the recipes? I was thinking it would be fun to do something like this for Xmas gifts and making everything myself! Sounds like fun!

(shea nuts have latex in them? I'm allergic to latex! This might explain some things!)

Hiya!

I've been lazy of late, and haven't made much recently, though I keep meaning to make more lip balm and such for my friends. I found some ideas for recipes online and in some lj communities, and then for the most part kind of tinkered them a bit. It's really not that hard -- everything goes in a double boiler, melt and stir, then pour or dropper into containers. They make fabulous gifts, especially in pretty bags or tubes. I think I have my other recipes in a public post earlier, and if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them.

*shrugs* Evidently shea nuts do have some kind of natural latex in them. Weird, but there are rubber trees, so not too weird. You could try using cocoa butter instead, but I find it too hard to work with easily. Maybe other brands or types would be easier. I get all my stuff at http://www.mountainroseherbs.com if you want to check it out.
