From the Addendum to my previous post:

I felt really like I had made some serious headway with this article, and I believe the reaction I got may have, in a backhanded way, proved that I did. The reaction was "is she insane?" The hurtful part of that was that the person who asked this of a mutual acquaintance had only days earlier said to me "the ( Read more... )

That's very interesting, and a great read.

I think you are onto something.

Myself, years ago, I grappled with this, in my own way. The conclusion I came up with, and I am not suggestion this to you, is for myself to silence my inner dialogue when people were speaking to me. All my life I always had this racing dialogue going on inside of me whenver someone was speaking, like I almost had to interupt them to get my thought out before I forgot it.

It always got me in a heap of trouble. Now I sit in silence when I listen to people talk. Its improved my listening skills.

I don't know why I share this, definitely not to tell you what to do. Its just reading this, this is what it triggered in me.

Peace,

I agree and that is why I wrote "The first thing I do is become even more mindful of my own words and movements - I want to take ME out of the pool of uncontrolled factors. I want to be very sure that I know what I have done and said, and that these things are in alignment with what I want to accomplish with the new conversation I am being presented with."

Internal dialog - I am becoming increasingly convinced - is not really a part of "you," rather it is a force that has been with you from the moment of first consciousness, and consequently you cannot tell the difference between it and yourself, because both seem to source from within. I have news for y'all - you put on a pair of stereo headphones and the sound seems to come from within...and obviously it is coming from somewhere else; the real source is removed in media, space, and even time from its current manifestation. I think this internal dialog has a similar external source.
