apparently, you can import EVERYTHING from LJ to DW. So you don't lose posts or comments or userpics. You don't even have to retype your bio because you can import that, too. it took almost no time, even though they warn you it could take a full day. I have about 9 years of LJ entries and it was all imported in a matter of minutes, with only 4 ( Read more... )

i'm leaning towards crossposting with no LJ comment-capability, so I don't have parallel conversations to follow. I just really don't like seeing the fb and twitter checkboxes there, deactivated though they may be.

The real problem is that my comms are here. I just don't want the hassle of having to deal with two separate sites, have two different parallel conversations going on on a post (because some people will comment on the DW version, others will comment on the LJ version), etc.

ah, I have no time for communities. and though I haven't decided whether I'll cross-post, I won't have comments turned on for the LJ entries, so there won't be parallel conversations going on.

I have no immediate plans to join the Dreamwidth exodus. I still recall when "everyone" was going to leave LJ and join Deadjournal. And then it was InsaneJournal. And then it was GreatestJournal. None of those really lasted, and people usually ended up coming back here ( ... )

given that they haven't done anything about it yet, I highly doubt they're going to. people are still joining the FB LJ group just to tell them to fuck off (more or less). I'm really unimpressed. I want FB and LJ completely and utterly separate and that's getting encroached upon, so I'm out of here.

BTW, you can change DW's colour scheme in your settings on there. I have it set to purple (I have a sort of semi-account on there via Open ID, mainly so that I can comment on friends' entries).

thanks! the purple is the least jarring for me.

I waffled with the idea... but really, I've got groups here that I follow and who don't crosspost. Will you be updating to both places?

yeah... that seems to be what is keeping people here most of all -- the communities. which I don't have time for, so away I go. I haven't decided whether I'll crosspost, but I likely will. I'll have comments turned off on LJ, though, which is gonna suck, as far as people commenting, since most can't be bothered to travel to a different site to leave a comment, but whatever. The facebook and twitter checkboxes on the post and comments pages, even though they're deactivated on my LJ, really bug the crap out of me.

I'd head on over there for discussions to comment on your entries... but the crossovers to Facebook and other sites terrify me. LJ is private and very deliberately not tied to my given names. I do not want it linking anywhere else!
