Okay, I must be getting old, because I need to ask you to explain an online communication thing to me: What is the deal with the Facebook wall? Why do people try to start conversations there instead of sending me a message? Wall posts are not threaded and the audience doesn't seem to match and I don't get it.

I've had the same conversation, because of the exact same confusion, with friends. We're all puzzled by it. The lack of threading is further complicated by the fact that you only see others' responses if they're also your friends, or something like that. It's bizarrely half-public and half-not, and almost always incoherent. I strongly prefer the personal message route, especially since it is quite easy to involve multiple people. (Somewhat odd, though, is the lack of a "reply only to sender" if someone does initiate a multiple-person message.) Well, it's not *real* email, after all. ;)
