Oh, geez, this is why you people do caffeine, isn't it.

Not this lying-awake-in-bed-for-hours. No, that's one of the reasons why I generally avoid the stuff. But the quality and clarity of thought, as opposed to the mumble-mumble-don't-ask-me-to-think I spend much of my days in.

So, one of the things this leads me to think about is why I'm so ( Read more... )

Technically speaking, I would say it is somewhat of a stretch to call caffeine addictive. There are three prongs of addiction: tolerance, withdrawal, and compulsive behavior. Caffeine doesn't really cause a tolerance (people get a little accustomed to it, but probably only by a margin of three or so), and its withdrawal is usually fairly mild---mostly a headache and inability to wake up. And as for compulsive behavior, to quote Bob Saget, no one has ever sucked dick for caffeine.

But it is pretty habit forming. As are most awesome things!

I'd say if you're worried about it that's a pretty good indication that you should be careful. Nobody knows your body like you do and if you think caffeine might be a problem, I'll bet you have a reason. That being said, it is one of the most mild drugs you can do and the consequences of maintaining a long-term caffeine addiction are mild, unlike heroin. I get a lot of pleasure from my caffeine addiction, so there's an up-side.

Caffeine is good for you ;-)

(unless of course you have certain health conditions...then you should stay away from it)

I agree, Caffeine is good for you, though addictive. Speaking of, my current employer offers employees and guests all the espresso drinks they can drink for free, come visit! ;)

Actually, I've got a flight out of OAK on 9/14, and am looking for a place to stay the night of the 13th (a Sunday). I'm down there for a weekend workshop, and it wraps up around 6:30 or so on Sunday evening.
