iridescence

♡ for k ♡

tonight -
just for tonight -
let's pretend that we're invincible,
that nothing will ever
bring
us
down.

take my hand
won't you, love?
and we will weave new constellations into
the skies above out of all the fears that we've now left behind,
ignite our entwined hearts into
starbursts of iridescent flames illuminating
the dark velvet of the night.

we will
run across traffic-filled highways,
soar from the roofs of fifty-storey apartments,
walk on water with the soles of our feet
skimming over the frigid liquid crystal
as if we are immortals.

and this is what
invincible means:
we do not bleed do not scar do not hurt,
the crimson slashes of mouths on your skin are
no longer angry; they do not
scream of warnings and threats and failures.
the painted-on masks over our faces are
no longer mere paint or masks but
genuine; skinmusclesbonesflesh,
and the opinions, the expectations of others
do not cause hairline fractures in the
glass-fragile frameworks of our
souls.

tonight -
just for tonight -
we are
invincible indelible infinite
and it won't ever matter
if we crash or if we fall, because we will be
back-to-back
hand-in-hand,
the way that we've always been;
together.
