In a Hole in the Ground
They say Tolkien began The Hobbit by writing quite unexpectedly the words "In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit" on the back of a term paper.

The Last Picture Show
John August, who's made a lot more money at screenwriting than I have, thinks old things suck. But although it was released in 1971, in black and white no less, I found The Last Picture Show to be one of the more honest, more moving movies I've ever seen. Release the Stars
I doubt anyone will be much surprised when I say I am a big Rufus Wainwright fan. But perhaps someone will be slightly surprised that I waited one week and two days to pick up his latest album, Release the Stars.

On a Day Like Monday
Mondays are maybe my favorite days. I wake up at 8:00 or 8:15 or thereabouts, dress and walk the 1.3 miles to the Farmers' Market at Plummer Park.
