i heard about that kid on the news. when he got to the astrodome, he (and all the people on the bus) were turned away.

they were eventually let in but there was a period where it didn't look promising. check out Jordan Flaherty's stuff on leftturn.org, somebody on my friends list posted the Notes from New Orleans article and its pretty interesting.
