Man. That sux. But don't worry Kevin, you'll get another job just as quickly as you got this one. And there are a lot of stores and businesses that are hiring for the holidays, so you won't be unemployed for long.

Have you thought about actually filing for unemployment? You worked so long at the other company, there's bound to be money there waiting for you.

Oh yes, I have thought (and thought fondly) about filing for unemployment, but despite working at the other company for so long, I was employed there through a temp agency, which as I understand it makes me ineligible for unemployment benefits...?

I see. Yes, you're right. It makes you ineligible because you cannot list the company you were working at before as your employer. The temp agency is your employer, and if you list the temp agency as the employer, they will respond that you are an active employee and that they have expectations of continued work assignments for you in the future.

Still, there are plenty of holiday jobs out there... you're not totally in the lurch.

It is difficult for me to get hired for retail jobs, due to my medical condition (if they ask me if I can regularly lift 30 pounds, I'm supposed to say "no") and my spotty employment history in retail, but yes, I'm not too worried, because somebody's bound to be desperate. Maybe I can go back to the video game store!

I disagree. With experience comes speed. If new employees were fast then there would be constant turnover as old and slow employees were replaced with new, quick replacements.
Newhires are always slow.

Where do I petition for an appeal?

If that's true, I must have been remarkably slow.

sorry to hear that Kevin. Just remember, if desperate times call for desperate measures, My work is still hiring. I know you absolutely cannot stand phone jobs, but it IS $9.50 an hour and you sit in a chair all day. No heavy lifting, and you don't have to be real speedy at anything. Unless you count your talk time, which they don't even monitor for the first month or so. Anyway, sorry I cannot be of more help.

I might take you up on that, because desperate I am indeed. But how many hours could they offer me?
