Wow. I just got a phone call from my landlady, asking me yet again to pester the reggae guys about paying their rent. Surprisingly, it ended with her crying, saying 'I'm going to kick them out if I don't hear from them, it's been eight months, I've got cancer, I'm dying, I don't have time for this, I'm sorry," then hanging up ( Read more... )

Wait - they haven't paid their rent in eight months??? WTF!

I have not mailed your card yet, but it will be in the mail by the end of this week. I'm sneaking them to work with me tomorrow so that I can try to get some of them done while it's slow and my manager is out to lunch. :)

Ha, no, they've just been reliably, increasingly LATE on their rent (and unreachable by phone) for eight months.

And thanks again... far be it from me that I should even think to worry about the timeliness of such a generous offer!

She should have kicked them all out a long time ago. If all she's prepared to do is cry to you about it over the phone, then she gets the tenants she keeps.

I think it's a case of misguided compassion; last time I dropped my rent off she told me that they said they'd fallen on hard times. I had no choice but to betray them by informing her that they are in fact doing quite well, financially speaking. I told Eric about it last night when he came home and he said "yeah, I'll call her tomorrow."

To be fair, she clearly didn't EXPECT to start crying to me. The call was unremarkable at first. And I should think she was crying more about the cancer than the tenants.
