Weekly Recs 5/13/11
This isn't it for weekly recs this week, not by a long shot, but given how busy I've been I haven't had a chance to dig into most of the "Swan Song" post eps or anything on fanfiction.net. So thought I'd just get what I already had written up and formatted posted and catch up on the rest later. (And I'm so excited about all of these stories!)
Completed Stories:

Summary: Pesach is a difficult holiday to have away from home.
KEW note: Co-pick of the week. Sometimes a fanfic author's unique perspective can bring so much more to your understanding of a character, and it's that way with this story. (This story also hits close to home for me for sharing themes--not to mention almost the exact same title--with a fic that I started writing about a year ago and never finished.)
"The Inside Man" by Rose Malmaison (rose_malmaison)

Summary: Tony helps Gibbs prepare for a difficult day.
KEW note: Co-pick of the week. A truly beautiful (and sad) story that strikes touching notes on many, many levels. Also distinguished for excellent use of spoiler speculation as an avenue for character exploration.

Quote: He thought he'd held himself rather well, given the circumstances, and he had, with most of them. Except Ziva, of course.
KEW note: I love that the emotional payoff in this fic reaches into seasons far beyond the episode to which it's a tag.
"Absolved" by magdarko (magdarko)

Summary: Jethro rolled his eyes. "I'm not your boss, DiNozzo." "So you keep saying," Tony replied cheerfully--he'd had a good day, then. On a bad day he'd have said, "I know, it's a habit, okay?"
KEW note: It's interesting to see Gibbs and Tony learning to navigate a relationship dynamic where they're no longer forced to spend time together every day.
"Operation: Wedding in Vermont" by lisgreomg
[PG, McGee, Gibbs/Tony, ensemble, ~4,950 words]
Summary: Gibbs is a stupidhead. So the team punishes him by following all the rules.
KEW notes: This is inspired. Basically, the team points out Gibbs's fundamental hypocrisy by obeying all the rules to the letter...just not Gibbs's rules. And did I mention that it's hilarious as well? I'm so glad that someone requested this on ncisficfind or I would have missed it completely.
"Surmenage" by o_o_aurora_o_o

Summary: An aircraft carrier off Bahrain is attacked during a Family Weekend and training exercise with the Israeli navy. While Ziva investigates Israel's involvement, Gibbs and Abby are called to help DiNozzo figure out what happened.

Summary: When a tiny virus sweeps through Tony's body, leaving catastrophic results, his team remains vigilant.

Summary: "Five years ago, when he first met her, he would never have guessed she would be the kind of person who ever fell flat in anything." Tony and Ziva grapple with the change in the air.

[NC-17, past McGee/OC]
Summary: A Marine appears to have been murdered simply for being gay. When the victim is linked to a member of his team Gibbs is forced to tackle Don't Ask Don't Tell head-on, and it leads him somewhere he never thought he'd go.
