Recs Special: Guily Pleasures Edition
I spend more time than I'd care to admit in pursuit of awesome, beautifully written and characterized stories. But you know what? These gems are few and far between and sometimes after a long day I just want to read some damn fanfic--and nevermind if there are thorughly fluffy, ridiculous situations that may or may not have anything at all to do with canon events or characterization. To me this is kind of the essence of the genre.
So here are some stories that have been entertaining me recently.
Ed Note: I'm aware that some of you might be judging me by the time this is over, but I don't really care. Also, this should not be interpreted as a backhanded compliment to these authors, because I am genuinely enjoying their stories.
"Hiatus Revisited" by jrrm64
[T, Tony/Ziva, AU from 3x25 "Hiatus (Part 2)", ~24,000 words]
Summary: What if Tony took a new assigment other than Rota?
KEW note: This author is probably the best at keeping me entertained recently, because he or she posts stories at a furious pace with long chapters and satisfying action. They're all AU in some fashion (and could use some more proofreading).
Also recommended in this vein are "Rules are Made to be Broken" (Tony/Abby and Tony/Ziva), "In Dark Places", "A Right Hook, A New City, and Revenge", and "One Good Cop" (all Tony/Ziva) and "Aliyah Revisited" (Tony/Kensi).
"Heart of a Child" by NCISVU

Summary: Two abused toddlers. One dead mother. One missing father. Jenny chooses the one man she knows is more than capable to lead the investigation and protect the kids.
KEW note: I like family man Gibbs.
"Fighting Fate" by smartkid37 and Shelbylou
[T, McGee, team, work in progress]
Summary: When an airline flight tragically crashes, Team Gibbs struggles to come to terms with the realization that their team mate, while coming back from vacation, was one of those on board. Will things ever be okay for them again?
KEW note: Disaster fic!
"Something Permanent" by I03I
[T, Tony/Ziva, Ziva/OC, future fic, work in progress]
Summary: It has been five years since Tony has seen Ziva when he calls her, intending to salvage their friendship, only to realise that her life did not turn out the way he had naively hoped it would.
KEW note: Nice melodrama.
"The Ties that Bind" by starryjules

Summary: She thought she was done with her father's lies, until a witness with Tali's face hurls herself into Ziva's arms and turns her world upside down. But the reunion may be short-lived as danger and family secrets lurk nearby.
KEW note: Dead character comes back? Yep, definitely a guilty pleasure fic.
"Two Weeks in Miami" by superashy8
[T, Tony/Ziva, Tony/EJ, Ziva/Ray, work in progress]
Summary: Ray's getting relocated at the end of the summer, and wants to make the most of his Miami beach house with Ziva. There's just one problem: he wants Tony and EJ to come along.
KEW note: I can't even explain why I started reading this.
"Catch Me If You Can" by Jena Rink
[T, OC, ensemble, future AU, work in progress]
Summary: Running is all Sophia has ever known, following the clues her mother left her hoping to find the answers..hoping to find her family.
KEW note: A sprawling action & intrigue fic. Pretty well written.
