Thank you, Canada.
I liked it. What kept it together for me, above all else, was that they had the case of the week framework. Thank goodness.
First of all, the didn't likes:
-How everyone else's what-ifs were shoehorned into two minutes: Kate's, Kate and Tony's, Abby and McGee's, and Ziva's. I feel like they hyped those scenes a lot and they really were nothing.
-The Kate and Tony's baby scene was completely devoid of emotion. It was probably hard to act opposite CGI "SWAK" Kate.
-Why can't Mike Franks stay dead? Two episodes with spirit guide Mike Franks are quite enough, thank you.
But more likes:
-Gibbs's mom was a redhead. Ha.
-Ari and Vance playing chess. (But isn't this like the 3rd episode in a row with nothing for Rocky Carroll to do?)
-McGee (almost) gets a plotline. This is the kind of character development that I've been waiting for, but then they resolved it without telling us anything about what McGee actually wants in life. That remains an eternal mystery.
-I like how McGee is much more prominent in this episode in general. For example he's the one to go see Gibbs in his basement with Abby and Ducky, not Tony.
-When Gibbs first slides into the booth with his family... There's something in Mark Harmon's gaze whenever he plays these Shannon scenes that just cuts me every single time.
I'll probably add more as I think of it.
