NCIS 9x23 "Up in Smoke"
Judging from the behind the scenes footage (HERE), I am going to love this episode. Live blog ahead:
-Dorney!!!!! My love for him is boundless.
Cold Open/Teaser
-What is he talking about to the dentist? ("How badly did she hurt you?") She being who?
-I love how they are messing with Palmer about Abby's bachelor party plans. I also love how they all seem scarted of Abby.
-"Two words: Abby. Sciuto."
-There's a really funny shot of Ziva looking in between Gibbs's and Dorney's shoulders that unexpectedly cracks me up.
Act One:
-Exposition time! We heard all this about Dearing last week.
-And hereeeee's Dr. Ryan. I'm trying to be the bigger man and reserve my eye rolls until she actually does something annoying, rather than just being generally annoyed by her presence.
-Gibbs casually handing Ryan a stick of gum was actually rather sweet and subtle.
-I kind of like Dorney's guilty dentist in his two minutes of screen time.
-How did Dearing call into MTAC? The heck? I thought this was a secure government communications center?
-You mean this is All About Gibbs? I'm completely shocked.
Act Two:
-I like Dorney sittin in Tony's desk.
-Gibbs is pretty mean to Dorneet.
-Haha at Jimmy being stressed on the phone to Breena about Abby and tattoos.
-I can't believe they let Dearing escape when he was right under their noses on a secure base.
-Gibbs's boat has been gone for two seasons. So glad they're dragging it up again.
-Ha again at Ryan's assessment of Gibbs's psyche: "Solid as a rock. That's a compliment to rocks."
-Surprisingly cutting observations from Ryan: "You don't turn anything off. You marinate in it."
-Same argument that Mann and Gibbs got into.
-I laughed when Gibbs startled Ziva by sliding into the back of the car.
-Sharp observations on Tony's part, calling out Gibbs for some nookie with Ryan.
Act Three:
-When Ducky starts talking about Abby borrowing the autopsy rotary saw for the bachelor party, this is when I think that it's all a wind-up to scare Jimmy. Well done to everyone for playing along.
-Oh geez, the Watcher fleet chips again. I still hate this subplot.
-No Vance, yet again.
-Interesting that it's the same chip from Levin's arm.
-This is a very unsecure conversation in very loud whispers that Gibbs and Ryan are having.
-Shallowly, I notice that for once Ryan is wearing a professionally appropriate outfit that does not expose cleavage.
-I love Richard Schiff. When he's talking about the greater good I flash back to Toby and Sam arguing about speeches and idealism on THe West Wing.
-This is a very weird scene in the warehouse.
Act Four:
It better be bachelor party time now! Only 15 minutes left in the episode, and to be honest, I could watch like an hour of just the bachelor party.
-What? No real bachelor party? Only fake bachelor party?
-Well, this explains why Ducky isn't at the bachelor party.
-Ziva looks a) hot and b) like a streetwalker waiting on that bench alone.
-"Blah blah blah alcohol is fun." If only this were a REAL bachelor party. I feel SO, SO cheated.
-Haha at Jimmy running away.
-Yep, Ziva looks really, really hot. Distractingly so.
-This wasn't even connected to the real plot? This is dumb, and I'm bored.
-Addendum: That was my first reaction, but I don't think bored is correct. What I really am is disappointed that they couldn't stretch this Dearing plot to fill two entire episodes. I expected a little more development of the arc.
-I like Gibbs tipping off Jimmy to run from Abby. I guess she really is that gung-ho.
-Gibbs and Ryan are much more interesting when they're fighting.
-Oh, Vance does figure heavily into the plot. That's unexpected. They kept that well under wraps.
