The Most Reviewed NCIS Fics

Jun 10, 2012 14:03

I set out to find what were the most popular NCIS stories on Fanfiction.net, as measured by how many times they had been reviewed. After I found the 25 most popular, I also looked at how many times they had been reviewed per chapter, as an imperfect proxy for relatively how many people each story had following along with each update ( Read more... )

Only one - the amazing "Rag Doll" by cheekymice. And I patiently await the next instalment. Cheeks has ongoing health issues, as does her hubby, so I don't press. But it would be lovely to get a new chappy soon!

I'm with you - no interest at all in the "fluffy nonsense". Can you rec the ones on this list you think are worth reading?

my favorite on this list (and one of my all time favorites on any list) is Transitional States by our good friend Rigel.

This is one of a handful of go to stories when I feel the need to re-energize my inner fangirl.

I've thought about reading it, because so many people say how marvelous it is. But the fact that it's unfinished (and always will be) is a deterrent, I'll freely admit. I don't want to be left "hanging".

Would anyone play, or listen to, the Mozart Requiem if Herr Sussmayr hadn't finished it off for him? I doubt it. ;)

Rigil's warning is a little misleading because Transitional States is in fact a trilogy and only the third story is unfinished. So if you just want to read the first one, "Things Fall Apart," it's kind of like reading just The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe out of the Chronicles of Narnia. You'll still be satisfied because it's a self-contained adventure.

"Transitional States" and "Of Jews and Gentiles" are probably in my top 10 or 15 favorite NCIS stories of all time. I highly, highly recommend them. "Fitting Pieces" is AMAZING but it is still a work in progress. I also like "Rag Doll," but I stopped reading it because the wait between updates was so long. "Fine is a Four Letter Word" is also very good, although the story type (team member gets life-threatening illness) is not my cup of tea.

What an interesting idea, Kew. I can't imagine getting +30 reviews per chapter on a fic! I love reviews as much as any author, but I've skimmed through a few stories on this list, and yeesh, I'd rather have no reviews at all than write some of them. I think the only one I've actually read is "Hoping for Happiness," which wasn't half bad.

If you haven't read it, I really recommend "Of Jews and Gentiles." It's one of my all time favorites, and I think you particularly will enjoy it because Ziva's religion plays a major role in the story, both thematically and as part of the case.

Yes, yes, yes, "Of Jews and Gentiles" will always be one of my favorites!

Along with Littlesammy, Sashile is my favorite author in the NCIS fandom.

It's sad but just because a story has the most reviews, it won't make me more willing to read it. I've come to the realization that the really good writers (or at least the ones I like) get lots of reviews (sometimes) but not an obscene amount of them.

And it's actually the same in every fandom, I won't say names but my "main" reading fandom right now, has some writters that get an unbelieble quantity of reviews and those fics always tend to be the fluffy ones where you can't even recognaise the characters. So, yeah, reviews can be deceiving.

I won't lie, when I read in fanfiction, I will always read first the ones with the bigger quantity of reviews but n the end you realized that the really good ones are those who get a good amount but not something excessive.

I did go and read a few chapters of the top reviewed story, "My Girl," because it just had such a ridiiiculous number of reviews, and it's...better than I expected. Fluff to be sure, but the writing quality is not bad. (Some of the other ones on the list though, don't look like they have such redeeming qualities.)

I just realized that there is no Gibbs/Tony slash on this list. I'd always perceived that to be the most popular relationship in NCIS fandom, tied (and sometimes warring with) Tony/Ziva. But I guess it's like you say.... most popular fics get a good amount, but not excessive reviews.

I've read too many. Though some of them are quite a few years old (like 2 or 3), so I probably read them when I was like 15.

And Of Jews of and Gentiles. I love that one. I love her series. She has a new one out too, of which the prolouge served as a well deserved study break.

And wow, the number of reviews they get. Considering I get like 5 per fic, is boggling.

Wow ... I've read none of those. I haven't even heard of any of them. That makes me feel really out of touch with the NCIS fandom.

Oh good, then I can make you read Transitional States: Things Fall Apart and Of Jews and Gentiles, too. Shoo! Go! :)

I don't feel like fanfiction.net accurately represents the NCIS fandom canon, although it's fast becoming my only place to find fic since there's so little on LJ these days.
