"Where is the mailman going to put our mail?" I asked the real estate agent.

"Oh, most people don't have mailboxes around here, they just get a PO box. You can put one up if you want."

ahhh, Stefan, even in the most ridiculous situation, you handle it with grace and humor and duct tape. you are a hero! someday soon you're going to write a great story that doesn't involve a personal possession of yours being destroyed anonymously.

The plows hitting mailboxes is pretty common, yeah.

According to the WKTV weather blog the storm is weaker than expected. Only a bit of snow and rain here -- they'd been forecasting 1-3 inches. Probably less snow where you are, too, FWIW.

Maybe if we duct tape a wart to the mailbox the plow driver will stay on the other side of the road.

Living in a region where there is snow on the ground from November through March:

Almost all the mailboxes have a pole embedded in the ground about two feet before the mailbox post. Many of the poles have either a plywood board fastened to them or a steel plate to divert the snow being thrown by the plow. In addition many of the mailboxes have roofs over top of them.

I'll take photos of some of the boxes and post them when I get a chance (after I get home from the SDO).
