It's morning, and later than both of them are usually awake.

But Susan and Cuthbert are still asleep in each others arms, and the only movement from either of them is when Cuthbert shakes his head briefly and then buries it in a pillow, as if hearing some sound

(come, it's almost time, come)

and trying to ignore it and sleep on.

Unconsciously, she tightens her arms around him, holding him more closely.

Her head is resting on his chest, and his heart beats under her ear.

(come - come - come)

Still deep in sleep, Susan whimpers, very softly.

Cuthbert tightens his arms around her, with a soothing noise.

Only it almost seems distracted, because the whimper reaches his awareness like a dim echo, not half so loud or immediate as the call he can't shut out.

He stirs again, fitfully.

(rest in the clearing)

Her hair is a tangled cloud as she stirs, turning her head as if looking for escape.

(peace in the clearing)

"Come..." Murmured in sleep, Susan doesn't realize she's spoken.

(come it's time nearly time come)

Cuthbert shakes his head as if to clear it again--and then, slowly, his eyes open.

"...Susan?"

It comes out a sleepy, barely intelligible mumble.
