Appearance: Sora is the standard scrawny 16-year-old boy in all but height. Just shorter than average, he has spiky brown hair and big, cerulean blue eyes. He has a thin but athletic build, with visible strength but a slight bone structure. His skin is moderately tanned from living on Destiny Islands, though it grew paler from his year in stasis while he regained his memories in Castle Oblivion. He wears parachute pants with several strappy belts and too-large shoes, along with a silver crown necklace that he never goes without. His face is expressive and easy to read, always serving telltale signs of his mood from distraught to the spunk and cheerful demeanor he usually reflects.

Personality: At the beginning of the series, Sora shows an intense bout of laziness and is directly characterized as such by Kairi. As he grows to become the world-saving keyblade master we know now, he loses this trait and it is replaced by a fierce determination and a loyalty that knows no limits. He wants, above all, to be able to help people and defend those he loves from any sort of danger. He makes it his mission to run to the ends of the universe and back, disregarding any risks and fighting many tough battles just for the chance to see his friends again. He does not accept defeat easily and has a very strong heart, the strongest, in fact, as is par for keyblade masters. He is generally cheerful and optimistic, painfully so, if you were to ask Riku, but it helps him get by with a little help from his friends.

On occasion, however, there have been a few things to upset him; Axel’s self-sacrificing for the sake of Sora’s safety and Roxas’ was very moving, although he’d deny it under torture, and Riku’s wish for Sora not to find him. He was deeply moved but also confused by Axel’s gesture, feeling that the redhead had always played the role of the villain and seeing him as a friend and an ally only to have him kamikaze moments later was a surprising and painful experience for him. Riku’s turn to the “dark side” and subsequent disappearance without wish to be found also crushed him because he felt as though he had done something wrong and Riku didn’t want to be his friend anymore because of it. When he had to fight Riku in Hollow Bastion, it was the most painful thing he’d ever done, despite knowing it was Ansem behind it all, it was still Riku. This shows that the most important thing to him, even above his own safety and well being, he cares about his friends and wants them to be happy. A simple creature, he doesn’t put much thought into things and instead throws himself into things headlong based only on his emotions and gut instinct.

Abilities/Strengths: Some of Sora’s strengths include his strength of heart, his unwavering determination and his unmatched valor. The valor may be inadvertent, but he is more courageous than any of Square’s other heroes. He is unafraid to rely on his friends, referring to them multiple times as his “strength” because they make up the very core of his heart. He also has the advantage of having a very, very shiny keyblade to throw around if anyone gets on his bad side, as well as some moderate skill in offensive, defensive and restorative magic.

Weaknesses: Sora’s biggest strength is also his weakness. Any shots taken at his friends will get him immediately in emotional, defensive mode and usually results in brash behavior. He is also not the sharpest tool in the shed, so his reliance on emotion alone can get him quickly into a lot of trouble.

History: When Sora was only a child, his best friend was his neighbor, Riku. They grew up together on Destiny Islands and would routinely play over on a smaller island adjacent to the one everyone lived on. When they were about 6, Kairi appeared. This strange girl, adopted by the Mayor’s family, was from a different world-a world that she couldn’t remember. It was this incident that caused the three to begin to first think about getting off the islands and seeing what kinds of worlds were out there. In Sora, it was a lazy dream, one that he thought would be fantastic if achieved, but nothing he truly strived for, however, his best friend was determined and that determination opened The Door. A door to darkness appeared on their islands when Kairi and Sora were 15, and Riku a year older. This door welcomed in swarms of Heartless and the island was sure to be overrun, just as the three teens were ready to make a raft to get away. Just as the darkness was about to consume them, Sora found a light-the keyblade. It beckoned him to become the hero that would open the door to light. When he accepted it, his whole life changed.

He was whisked away to Traverse Town where he met Leon, Yuffie, Aerith, Donald and Goofy. He befriended them all and teamed up with Donald and Goofy, who had been sent by the King to find a mysterious “key”, Sora’s blade. They traveled through the worlds, sealing all of the keyholes and protecting the princesses of heart while Sora searched desperately for his friends, who he had been separated from when their Islands sank into the darkness. However, as they traveled, it became apparent that Kairi and Riku were both being pulled into this plot surrounding the keyblade as well. Riku, jealous of Sora’s position as the main character, allowed himself to be swayed by the darkness. He became a puppet for Ansem, and Sora had to fight him on two occasions. Riku blamed Sora for Kairi having lost her heart, and Sora thought that it was true, but vowed to find it. On their second encounter, he found that Kairi’s heart had been within him the whole time. He used Riku’s special keyblade, made to unlock people’s hearts, to free Kairi’s heart from within him. In the process, he became a heartless, and Roxas was born (but we’ll get to him later). Sora regained his normal form as soon as he found Kairi and went on to defeat Ansem and lock Kingdom Hearts.

Unfortunately, Riku and the King were locked inside. The King left them with a cryptic message that “there will always be a door to the light”, so Donald, Goofy and Sora went searching for this door. What they found was an old mansion, Castle Oblivion. As they climbed higher in the castle, encountering various members of Organization XIII, their memories were lost and altered. Naminé, a witch being employed by the Organization, was manipulating them into believing that she was the girl Sora was searching for. He met and battled various members of the Organization of nobodies, but when he reached the end, he found that he had two options; to keep his memories of Castle Oblivion and the friends he had made there (a replica of Riku and Naminé) or to forget them and regain his old memories. Sora chose the latter and was put into a yearlong sleep while he regained his new memories. When he awoke, he was greeted by the three good fairies from Sleeping Beauty and told that he needed to eliminate Organization XIII because they were nobodies. He set out to do so, traveling the worlds once more, spending the time to also seek out Riku. Along the way he met Axel, who was desperately seeking Sora to get back his best friend, Sora’s nobody, Roxas, as well as various other Disney characters and Organization members who really don’t have enough development with Sora to be mentioned since this is already HUGE and probably driving you nuts.

So, Sora went to stop the leader, Xemnas, in the World that Never Was and on his way there, Axel pulled a kamikaze to save Sora from a never-ending battle with the Dusk-type nobodies, telling Sora that he made him feel as though he had a heart, just like Roxas. Sora finally met Roxas in The World That Never Was, and Roxas kind of blamed him for not existing and stuff, but when they merged it was total equilibrium so I assume they got along all right after that. Anyway, so Sora found Riku who had turned into what used to be Ansem’s body and was like “wtf omg, boo, I missed you so much”. Riku just made his B| face but agreed to help Sora fight Xemnas and COME HOOOOME afterwards. So, they fought Xemnas, won, got stranded in the middle of nothingness fighting a bunch of dusks, Riku became a cripple because the battle with Xemnas sucked a lot for him, and Sora helped him hobble out onto a dark beach. They sat around and talked about the meaning of life and how they were jealous of each other for a while, and then a letter from Kairi from about… two weeks earlier, that she sent from Destiny Islands, suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the water. Sora read it and the CONNECTION BETWEEN THEIR HEARTS opened a door to the light, which Riku and Sora walked through together, holding hands. Then, they fell out of the sky on Destiny Islands, in a way very reminiscent of the beginning of the first game where Sora fell out of the sky and landed in the water. They then reunited with Donald, Goofy, Mickey, and Kairi/Naminé. It was beautiful, and they all lived happily ever after.

Until Sora drowned a few weeks later when he fell out of a boat on the way to the smaller island to hang out with Riku and Kairi, and wound up in Template.

Sample Journal Entry:
Whoa, this place is huge! Not like any of the other worlds I’ve been to. But... where did Donald and Goofy go? Man, in a place this big, it’ll be a huge pain to find the gummi ship...

Come to think of it… I don’t really remember how we got here in the first place. [eyes go wide] Oh, no! Does that mean the world we were on got eaten by the darkness, like how I wound up in Traverse Town after the Islands disappeared? Quick! Donald, Goofy, let’s go, we’ve gotta find out... who... [looking around]

...Am I alone? Riku? Kairi? Anyone?

Sample Roleplay:
Sora rested his chin in one of his palms, using the other to continue to tap the back end of his pen on the desk before him. Biology had never been one of Sora’s strong suits, even before he had been whisked away by the darkness to save the worlds. Now that he’d returned, however, it had only proved to strengthen his resolve that it was completely irrelevant to his life in general-except in the case that it would make his mom happy for him to graduate. This train of thought, of course, served as a less-than-pleasant reminder that he still had no idea what he was going to do after that fact.

What career path could possibly be interesting enough for a kid who had gone to different worlds and saved humanity as a whole? Of course, he hadn’t been entirely certain of what he wanted to do before that happened, but he’d had a better idea. Classic male careers like police officer and fireman that Riku said Sora was too girly to pull off. He groaned, letting his head fall from his hand’s support and hit the desk none too gently. No one in his class seemed to look over, probably because it was a common reaction from the material. He looked over at his lab partner, his best friend since childhood, Kairi, and pursed his lips thoughtfully.

"Psst... Kairi." He whispered, nudging her foot under the table. "Kairi!" He said in a louder voice that more resembled a stage whisper. She sighed and looked down at him.

"What?" Clearly, she was attempting to be at least a little more focused than him.

"Do you think saving the world can be a job?" He asked in a completely regular voice that he, stupidly, hadn’t bothered to hush. A group of students surrounding them laughed, and Kairi just shook her head, excusing his question as Sora just being a dork. He relinquished an exasperated sigh, taking her dismissal as a definite 'no,' and going back to wishing that something interesting would pull him away again from the Islands that he had once been so happy with.
