My niece just held up a floppy disk (3.5") and asked me what it was.

Correct Answer: "The key TO YOUR DOOM!"
(Cue ninja fight music.)

Gosh I remember those. And the bigger "disks". Ugh, so obsolete. Although they were fun and less likely of damaging them than CDs.

Technically, the floppy disk is the 5 1/4" black disk... because it actually was bendable :p

The 3 1/2 inchers are also called floppy disks because, though they have a hard case, the disk inside is the same as in the 5 1/4 inch floppies, only smaller.

I'm young enough that I had to ask why they were called floppy disks when they weren't floppy at all, but I can't remember how old I was at the time.

My dad and his co-workers were sitting around and reminiscing about old technology (from slide-rules to punch card computers). I said, "Yeah. I remember when you couldn't play games on a calculator, because all it did was basic math. Oh, and DOS! Yeah, I remember DOS."

I kind of want to find teenagers and go off on how "back in my day" you could get a whole gallon of gas for under a dollar. I have to make sure to misuse slang terms in my attempt to relate to "the young people".
