A question for all you college grads

Aug 15, 2008 21:38

Are you doing what you went to college (Uni for you Canucks) for?

If so, how hard has it been to stay the course and make it happen?

If not, do you regret it?

I got an education degree which did allowed me to get certified and start teaching. I enjoy teaching. It's fun, it's different every year and it pays more than any other job I could get that would only make me work 190 days a year. :)

I have a BS in Biology which I got about 10 years ago. I worked as a lab technician in several different companies and realized I hated what I was doing. I didn't work as hard to get where I wanted to get and I do regret that. However, it did lead me to going back to school to become a nurse, which I do not regret and I consider the choices I made have led me to a good life that I appreciate and cherish.

I as a 'barber' for 5 years, mentored and trained with a razor by an italian man named Nick Martino. I got out of it not because I was not making good coin (I could have lived off of my tips alone). I got out of it because there was drugs being sold right under my nose and even though I was the Salon's supervisor, I was getting 45% commision compared to 55% if I had TITS and a vagina. I was once turned down for a job for having an ear ring at a Salon. I was once told, to my face, to cut my hair and then they would consider hiring me at a job. It's not a good business to be in when you live in Winnipeg. You either make good money, or nothing at all.

So when you watch Sweeney Todd...ya... Rethink that 'power-meeting' you are in.

got my B.Sc in Mathematics & Astronomy first, but as I dragged myself through the fourth (and the one course in the 5th year i needed to complete), I recognized this was not where I wanted to go. Pursued the Law degree: didn't intend to actually become a lawyer, but that's where I ended up anyway.
