On one hand, the bullying done to me in high school damaged me severely, and I still have some self esteem issues from it, but I recognize them, and deal with them.
On the other hand, I can take overbearing bosses, being yelled at at work or other areas in life, and can shield those who are not as used to it. It doesn't bother me, because I've been through it, I know it doesn't end in high school, and I've learned to let it go.
I think everyone deals with it differently. But some people cannot deal with it in a heaalthy way. I know several people of high school age that let it get to them enoughh that they killed themselves. Those people never got stronger.
So I don't know what to think of this. I think people can learn without having things beat into them, but not if the lesson is how to take a beating.

I have seen more childish, bully-like behavior from grown adults in the workplace than I ever expected I would as a kid. Had I not been exposed to such behavior when I was younger, I'd never know what to do about it now.
I could go on about humans being pack animals by nature, and people who refuse to either stand up to a bully or get help separating themselves from the pack, but I'm sure people can draw those analogies for themselves.
