Warning: This will upset some of you

My last post wasn't meant as a post about bullying itself. I wrote it about where I felt the responsibilities of the school ended. However, it quickly became discussions of bullies and bullying on my LJ and many others, so now I'll write about my opinions of the act of bullying ( Read more... )

I gotta disagree with you, Dale. There are just too many people out there who will never have the closure of "Then I stood up to that bully and from that point on I was stronger for it". Instead we end up with a lot of damaged kids who grow up to be damaged adults on both sides of the equation ( ... )

I'm pretty sure my life would have been better in 7th grade if I hadn't been bullied and my life now would be generally the same except I wouldn't have those terrible memories.

I'm not sure if I agree with this or not.

On one hand, the bullying done to me in high school damaged me severely, and I still have some self esteem issues from it, but I recognize them, and deal with them.

On the other hand, I can take overbearing bosses, being yelled at at work or other areas in life, and can shield those who are not as used to it. It doesn't bother me, because I've been through it, I know it doesn't end in high school, and I've learned to let it go.

I think everyone deals with it differently. But some people cannot deal with it in a heaalthy way. I know several people of high school age that let it get to them enoughh that they killed themselves. Those people never got stronger.

So I don't know what to think of this. I think people can learn without having things beat into them, but not if the lesson is how to take a beating.

If children are not bullied as children, how the hell will they stand it when adults treat other adults the -exact same way-?

I have seen more childish, bully-like behavior from grown adults in the workplace than I ever expected I would as a kid. Had I not been exposed to such behavior when I was younger, I'd never know what to do about it now.

I could go on about humans being pack animals by nature, and people who refuse to either stand up to a bully or get help separating themselves from the pack, but I'm sure people can draw those analogies for themselves.

Okay seriously...I understand that in the game of life you are often the guy taking the less popular view of things, but this is probably one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read (and I've read excerpts from Glenn Beck ( ... )

There is no growth without adversity, or something like that.
