Kind of strange when you think about it, computers shape the ways in which we think and communicate with the world in many ways (medium being the message and all that crap) and yet the very structure of computers is seriously English slanted. Not that there aren't computers with French keyboards or programs in Russian or Chinese... and on and on... just that the people who originally came up with and continue to produce the most advancements in computers tend to have English as a first language. Thus those programs at a very base level are influenced by English ( ... )

Or maybe we will have people (1) who don't speak English and (2) don't even realize that certain words are actually English, peppering their speech with English words. I'll bet that there is already a lot of that going around.

I remember my "anglais de l'informatique" class in cégep, where I finally learned the french word for a bunch of words I was using all the time!

It used to be that accented characters were a big deal of complications, and still is, to some extent. In my Fidonet days, putting any accented characters in an email was a seriously involved business, and the situation was only marginally better on the Internet ( ... )
