Wow. Finally got another chapter out. Surprise Surprise.
This chapter is shorter than normal and a bit boring, yet necessary. Enjoy :]
I noticed I've never done a disclaimer. Don't know if i need one of those, but here goes: I own nothing but my Oc (Jaelin) and the plot.
[From the last Chapter]She stopped in her tracks. “My family always called me Jae…”
I frowned. The happy atmosphere suddenly turned heavy.
“Then…. Let me by your new family.”
[Current]
“That was so cheesy; I can’t believe it came from your mouth.” Jaelin bluntly stated,
“Hey! I’m trying to be nice and turn the frown upside down!” I yelled along with weird frowning and smiley facial expressions. “Just call me big bro!”
“It’s impossible to just become someone’s family. Unless you get married, or something.”
“Stop being such a pessimist.” I sighed. “Just forget I said anything!” I yelled and walked away feeling dejected and hurt.
“Kibum, I’m sorry.”Jaelin grabbed my arm, pulling me back towards her and into a hug. An amazing accomplishment considering she wasn’t able to see me.
All at once I noticed how fantastic and warm one simple hug could feel. It definitely didn’t compare to the others I’ve received over the years. The hug came along with a sudden rush of butterflies along with the wind knocked out of me. I forgot I was supposed to be angry with her and my arms automatically wrapped around her before I could stop them.
“Kibum?” she asked, bringing him from his thoughts and back to reality.
“Yea?” I asked in response, but it came out as more of a content sigh.
“I said I’m sorry for being a jerk to you when you were only trying to cheer me up.”
“Oh, right. No problem.”
“Kibum?”
“Hmm?” I hummed, closing my eyes.
“You can let go now.” she whispered.
MY eyes snapped open in surprise.
“Right!” I untangled my arms that were around her neck and took an awkward step back. “Let’s get your stuff and go, shall we?”
I suddenly felt awkward and uncomfortable. The butterflies were still there. Why weren’t they leaving?
All throughout our time together at the mall, I couldn’t help but sneak glances at Jaelin. I pretended to shop through the endless rows of clothing on the racks, when all the while my eyes were distracted.
I mentally smacked myself when I remembered she couldn’t actually see what I was doing anyway.
-That was when innocent glances turned into occasional shameless staring.-
I noticed the facial expressions she used when I talked to her. When she laughed, one of her hands would come up and cover her mouth a bit, while the other hand was holding on to one of mine in case she were to get lost. Her eyebrows rose slightly when she was surprised, and she had a habit of twiddling the hair next to her ear between her fingers when the silence would turn awkward, it was my own little indicator that I needed to start a new conversation. These small little habits that I couldn’t help but think were -in a
way- cute.
‘Wait… cute?’
She would ask about what the stores looked like and what they sold. Sometimes she even picked up items off the shelves and tried to identify what it was, eventually giving up and asking me to tell her.
The best part of the trip, in my opinion, was when she rested her head on my shoulder on the bus ride home. My head fit perfectly on top of hers, and she eventually fell asleep.
“Almost home” I whispered to her.
“Home. I like the sound of that.”
Her reply startled me since -in theory- people who were sleeping didn’t usually respond back. Even though she was awake and knew we were almost to our destination, she still didn’t move her head from my shoulder.
The butterflies suddenly returned.
‘They don’t mean anything’ I mentally scolded myself.
They don’t mean anything. Right?
