Summary: Kat's afraid of storms and wakes Jonghyun up in the middle of the night.
Lightning brightened the dark midnight sky as the rain continued its assault on the house. Thunder cracked the sky startling the once sleeping woman from her dreamless slumber. Terrified, she turned to face her husband, who was sleeping peacefully after a hard day’s work, and shook him constantly.
“Jjong.” She spoke loud enough for him to here but still soft enough to be drowned out by the never ending rain. “Jjong, wake up.”
Jonghyun shifted in bed, turning away from his wife in hopes that she would leave him alone and go back to sleep. She didn’t. Instead, she shook him even harder, jumping out of fear as another barrel of thunder roared loudly, vibration flowing through the windows as it did.
“Jonghyun, please.” She said, more panic in her voice as the thunder continued. Jonghyun mumble incoherent muffled words into his pillow and swatted her hand away. She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. See that Jonghyun had no intention of waking up, she decided to take drastic measures.
She crept to the adjoined bathroom and filled a small cup with cold water before walking back to their bedroom and pouring it on her husband’s face. Jonghyun sat up with a jolt, sputtering and trying to clear his nose of the water that had made its way in his nostrils. Once he gained his composure, he looked at his wife, who was currently chuckling at him.
“Kat? What the hell was that for?” He whispered harshly as he wiped his face free of the water.
“I was trying to wake you up. I-” Before she could finish her sentence, another strike of lightning followed by a grumble of thunder touched down and she jumped back into bed and cuddled into Jonghyun’s side.
“You’re afraid of the storm?” He asked, his voice laced with both concern and amusement. Kat nodded, not willing to show him her unshed tears as the rain started to pour even harder than before. She heard him chuckle and looked up only to see an amused smirk on his face. “What are you, five?” He teased and she punched his side as she started to get out of the bed.
“If you’re gonna be a dick about it, I’ll just go cry myself to sleep in the bathtub somewhere.” To Jonghyun, it was just a little rain, but to Kat, it was an enormous storm that threatened to flood her house and wash her out to sea. Storms were her biggest fear besides spiders, something Jonghyun also made fun of.
Jonghyun grabbed her wrist before she could leave and pulled her into him. He kissed her lips lightly before dipping down to pepper her neck with sweet light kisses.
“J-Jonghyun, what are you doing?” She asked, her breath a bit shaky.
“Distracting you.” He said huskily in her ear as he nibbled on it lightly. She ran her fingers through his soft chocolate brown locks, forgetting the storm almost instantly, as he continued the attack on her neck, leaving a trail of bite marks along her collar bone.
“Umma? Appa?” A small voice called from their bedroom door. The couple straightened themselves and sat up in their bed.
“Hyunjong-ah? It’s past midnight. What are you doing up?” Jonghyun asked his son.
“The storm woke me up. Can I sleep here?”
“See.” Kat turned to face Jonghyun. “I’m not the only one afraid of storms ok.”
“But you’re a grown woman. He’s a five year old child.” Jonghyun received another blow, this time to his head, as Kat huffed and scooted away from him to make room for her son.
“I swear Jonghyun; you’re not getting any for a month if you don’t shut up.” She hissed lowly so that Hyunjong wouldn’t hear, but he did.
“Any what umma?”
“Cookies.” Jonghyun said before Kat could answer. Hyunjong’s eyes lit up as he bounced onto his parents’ bed.
“I want cookies! Umma, can I have cookie please?!”
“Not until you’re fifty now come to bed. It’s late.” Just as she finished her, thunder cracked the sky once again, reminding her of why she was even awake in the first place. Hyunjong scrambled into bed between his parents and hid underneath the blanket as if that could drown out the noise the storm was making.
“It’s ok Hyunjong. Shh, go to sleep.” Jonghyun cooed to his son. He stretched his arms around Kat to pull her closer and rubbed comforting circles into her back, knowing full well that she was terrified and he wanted nothing but to make her feel better. Within minutes, she drifted off to sleep thinking if every storm was like this, maybe they wouldn’t be so bad.
