Pink Floyd slash eh? Hmmm. You know, as much as I listened to their albums in college (and even still today I'll listen to a song here and there) I mostly have no idea what their names are! Crazy.
I had your Billy Joel experience with Queen. In high school I had all their albums (LP vinyl records in those days!) and listened to them constantly. Now I can barely stand to hear them. I can still recognize the talent and innovation of their music, it's not like I suddenly think it's bad or anything, I just don't want to hear it. There are a few I still enjoy (off the top of my head I can only think of Nevermore) but mostly I don't really want to.
Well, so much of Pink Floyd itself has to do with the real-life clash of personalities that it's hard not to see them as characters in something interesting. As for Queen, though, those guys should be interesting enough for a few stories as well. Not everyone writes slash, though, since it's so off the beaten path. And fewer write it about real people. I find writing to be my favorite form of creative expression, though, so I'm willing to try new things with it.
LOL, that icon is great! I'm probably going to have to change some of my icons, since my account is still free and I have that limit of 15. A shame, too, because I'm at least starting to make halfway decent ones of my own.
As for politics, I like making fun of politicians if anything. I don't hold them in high esteem either, so I have to joke about them just to stay sane. If it weren't for regulations, they'd literally get away with murder. And that's never a calming thing to think about.
As for the complexity of stories, I'm glad you like that one series. There's another LJ group that I recently joined called "verywrongslash" which is basically a slash parody group. It's pretty hilarious if you want to check it out.
