OMG, I'm SO glad you brought up the deaths! My theory is that she had the whole series planned out beforehand as a coming-of-age epic, which is basically what it is in whole. I don't think she expected the outcry from fans after everybody started dying all of a sudden. But again, that's just a theory based on what looked to me like several well-planned plot twists and bits of foreshadowing. But yeah, a lot of fanfic (understandably) involves the Not-Really-Dead and their continuing, made-up stories. The trick, of course, is making it believable. Thankfully, though, the Potterverse doesn't exactly work based on scientific facts. So, more fun for the fanfic writer. :-)

Exactly. I know that the series wouldn't have nearly the impact that it did if the most tragic character had a happy ending, but I've already seen other fics bring him back in less probable ways. Even the viral video, "How Harry Potter Should Have Ended" did it, even going so far as to give him a gun for shooting Voldemort through the head!
