Unlike the US, Canada has 4 parties that tend to get seats: The Conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democratic Party (from right to left) and the Bloc which is best known for championing the separation of Quebec from Canada. The Conservative government was elected into power with 38% of the seats. While the other parties have many (many) differences, they have agreed to work together for 18 months as a single party (the Coalition for Change)- taking power with 62% of the seats and causing havoc.
Everybody is accusing everybody else of being undemocratic.
It's awesome. I was in getting my permanent residency finalized today, and the friendly government man joked sarcastically that I was probably immigrating to Canada because of the stable government. ;-)
It's a little wild. Everyone is freaking out about the "Coalition for Change". The Liberals, NDP and Bloc are all, "Look at us! We're the majority!" and the Conservatives are all, "What the hell happened here? How are we 38% against 62% all of a sudden?!"
