I empathize with you! Every year, about half of my students do not understand the concept: You are, or almost are, an adult (They are high school juniors and seniors). They do not seem to understand they are responsible for getting their work done (They want extensive "help" or the assignment tossed out the window altogether.)and in on time (I had to hang with my friends.). I do not usually have a seating issue. I have an "I don't care what the teacher is saying and that I need this information to complete the assignment, I'm going to talk to my friends anyways: attitude. By this time of the year, second semester, I just need to stop, sit down, say nothing, and look into space. They become quiet real fast. At the beginning of the year, I simply ask them to share with the rest of us, because what they have to say must be very important. If they say it is important and they must discuss it with their friend, I simply ask if it fulfills one of the following categories: are you bleeding, throwing up, have any broken bones, having ( ... )
