... but I'm just too damn tired. I went to type a post the other day and I managed to hit a wrong button and lose it all. I was unimpressed. It was just a rant about work, so relatively unimportant in the scheme of things. On to more interesting matters ...
I've been going to cricket with The Son and Heir of a Saturday morning.
He's not very good at it, but he really enjoys getting out there and trying. I managed to get myself the position of manager because I know how to score. The other mum's there sort of took a huge step back and I was the one left holding the clipboard. I'm actually the soccer co-ordinator at my kids' school but so far we don't have enough kids who have registered an interest to play to form any teams so that should be interesting. I busted a gut to get enough players last year and we managed to form two teams but one of them was losing players hand over fist and was too small by the end of the season. this year I don't think we will be having school soccer teams. It's a shame as My First Baby would love to play soccer but there's pretty much no one to play with.
I thought Mr Kezza was going to take The Son and Heir to cricket but he decided to book The Middle Child into Art lessons. He takes her there and 'goes running' while she is at class. *Translation - he went running teh first two weeks and now he studies or gossips with the other parents*. We have a picture hanging on the wall now, courtesy of said art lessons
She hasn't produced much else but Mr Kezza thought the term fee was worth it for that painting.
My First Baby has taken up the flute.
At this point she had had three lessons. Consensus she is a bit clever. She has been playing teh calrinet for three years and she still plays it, but now she is in year 5 the Education Department will pay for her to have flute lessons so I said yes. This way she has two instrumetns and increases her chances of getting into a better high school on a music scholarship. Meanwhile the other two are doing drum lessons. My brother has an old set of drums in the shed which they practice on while at mum and dad's house. This suits me. I haven't set up the video of us mucking about on the drums yet, so enjoy instead this trio as they play 'Hot Cross Buns'.
My First Baby has also, in addition to continuing with the Primary School Wind Ensemble that she played in last year, joined the Festival of Music Orchestra. This Festival is run annually by the Education Department to showcase the music skills of Primary School Students and is a Very Big Deal.
http://www.musicfest.sa.edu.au/ Each performance has a massed choir of over 400 studetns from several schools and they are backed by an orchestra combined of students. There are something like eleven performances and three orchestras to cover them all. The Festival is in September .... I can see it will be a busy month! The committment to orchestra is huge but the benefits will be great - and she gets to perform at the Festival theatre in town. The Middle Child - pianist extraordinaire - will be auditioning for a role as an Assisting Artist - which is essentially being a person who plays an interval act. Hopefully we can get them scheduled on the same night - My First Baby will be playing at four performances - so we only have to buy one DVD :P .
They are all going very well in school and things. Mr Kezza is very stressed with his uni course and we are currenlty wondering what will happen with his final social work placement. There are two scenarios: he will eitehr keep his current work from home job and do night shift and weekend work (my preferred scenario) or he will have to quit his job and do a daytime placement. While that would be less stressful it would also be less money, so I'm not a huge fan. Either way we will need to rely on my parents more for carting children a bit after school but they truly don't mind so that is a positive. Mr Kezza worries and thinks he should be there for them, but I have always felt that being with my parents is a positive thing. The Middle Child actually asked the oterh day when she could next have a sleepover at Nanna's house and she has discovered the joy of working with scraps of wood in my dad's workshop. So far she's made a caterpillar out of old circular offcuts and a bit of wool.
Yes I could write about work ... but frankly it's far too depressing. I am going on camp next week for 3 days and two nights. I alternate between excited and just plain wary and afraid ...
