I need to get to Houston from LA as soon as I can since my dad is in hospital. It isn't life threatening as they have everything under control but I'm his only family in the US plus I just badly want to be there with him. Currently prices are coming up at $700+ for a direct flight as its last minute, ideally I want to fly out today (sat) or

We did get a discount from the airlines when we flew out for my grandmother's illness this summer, so once you have the flight, you could call the airlines and ask if you can get a special price (it's a pain and a half, sorry!).
