I'm wondering whether you were admiring very deep or very shallow DoF. =:) It's not a particularly expensive lens, but the image quality of the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is really rather nice. It's fairly soft wide open, but even at f/1.8, it becomes much noticeably sharper.

Not particularly expensive may be right in my price range at the moment. I only have two lenses at the moment, but my current worry is that my camera body may need replacing in the not-so-distant future.

As for dream depth-of-field... I can't actually remember much about it, and I also have a sneaking suspicion that what dream-me was talking about may not have even been depth-of-field. But y'know dreams, right?
