Le Petit Prince

This afternoon we saw The Little Prince movie,   I have to say with the combination of stop motion animation foe the original story framed in CGI for the expositional telling... I was in heaven!

I'm not certain why they've cancelled releasing the movie in theatres in the U.S., but I'm glad they showed it here.  I wasn't going to take a chance on ( Read more... )

Whowhatwhenwhere?

This does seem to've had an odd journey - I first saw the trailer quite a while ago, and since then, it's been on that weirdly uncertain outlook. Blah! Still, maybe it's the next studio executive paradigm - keep people from being able to see a film, and they'll naturally wind up giving you more money. =:/

You have, of course, seen the recent adventures of an intrepid bunny police officer?

All I can think is that there are definite marketing forces behind the decision with U.S. distribution. It appears that in the U.S. the movie will only be available via Netflix.

This seems doubly strange to me, considering the film seemed to do well in some of the European and South American markets, and has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Personally, I do think I actually enjoyed The movie more than Zootopia... but take that with a grain of salt. I think comparing the two simply because they are animated features would probably be overly broad, so I won't go there. They're very different.

I did like Zootopia... especially with them having the Peter Moosebridge cameo (though apparently he was replaced by a giant panda in the Chinese release), but I do definitely urge folks to go see The Little Prince while it is still in theatres!

Yeah, Paramount was supposed to release it this last weekend in the U.S., but then they cancelled it with only a week's notice! So Netflix has picked it up, but my understanding is that it'll be some time before they start showing it.

Canada, however, had a different distributor so I went out to see it while I had the chance. It's ok, I really liked the first half of the movie; the second half not so much. There's a framing story that's been put around it, I found it a little out of place, and they use different animation styles for different story segments, my favourite of which were the desert story sequences.

Oh, and here's something for you!
