A note from KFP's mommy,
alycewilson: The best way to introduce KFP is through a series of drawings he did at the beginning of the school year. I will include descriptions beneath each image. You can click on any one of them to see a bigger version.
When asked to fill in a page that included blanks for his age and something he could do, KFP wrote, "I am six. I can write." He drew himself at a desk in a classroom, wearing a huge smile and a hat, working on an assignment.
For a booklet about himself, he drew a picture of the brick apartment building where we now live, having moved in late summer so that he could be in a better school district.
For the same booklet, he drew pictures of his family, labeling each one. At top was himself, a smiling stick figure in a hat, his foot on a soccer ball. Below that were two images. On the left were "Mom and Dad," with drawings of us the way he typically draws us: me with curly hair and glasses, and his dad with glasses. Interestingly, he skipped the large Indiana Jones hat he usually puts on his father. Finally, there was a very accomplished drawing of our cat, Luke, a smiling white kitty, complete with brown rings on his tail.
Then, he filled in a page that said, "My pet and I both," completing it with the words "like to play." He drew himself outside and Luke inside, himself in a red and green baseball hat, both looking eagerly towards each other, sporting huge smiles.
Finally, I'm sharing a photo of KFP (short for Kung Fu Panda, my online nickname for him) a couple weeks ago, redeeming a reward coupon from school to bring a stuffed animal friend for the school day. He chose Gunma-chan, the mascot of the Gunma prefecture in Japan. Gunma-chan was given to him by a friend of ours, a fellow Otakon staffer, who taught English in Gunma for several years.
KFP is looking forward to the new season, when he will probably be drawing comics for each prompt but may write stories or poems, as well.
