A note from
alycewilson: KFP and I discussed this week's LJ Idol topic, "Fear is the heart of love," starting by talking about things that he loved. Then we talked about how there might be fear associated with something he loved, and he mentioned swimming and the fact that he used to be afraid to jump. Click on the images if you want to see them larger.
You can listen to KFP read his comic:
Title page, reading "How I Learned to Jump." The letters are in red. In the background are blue spirals, representing water splashing. A bubble coming in from the side reads, "Weee!"
Panel 1: A boy in a black shirt is swimming in the pool with water splashing up behind him. It reads, "I love swimming so much!" Panel 2: A smaller boy is standing at the side of the pool next to the blue diving block. A bubble coming from above says, "Aww, poor KFP." The instructor, whose upper half is visible in the pool, says, "You can do it, KFP." The little boy says, "No! No! No!" The words underneath say, "But I used to be afraid to jump off the block. Panel 3: A close-up of the little boy, wearing swim goggles, tears streaming down his face, as he says, "No! NO! No!" The words underneath say, "My instructor tried to help me." Panel 4: A thought bubble containing a red cardinal sitting on a brown branch in a leafy green tree. The words underneath say, "Then one day I would pretend to be a bird." Panel 5: The small boy is mid-air, jumping from the diving block into the pool. He says, "Weee!" The words underneath say, "When I did that I didn't feel scared. It worked!" Panel 6: A close-up of KFP, bigger now, wearing his swim goggles and smiling a big smile. The words say, "I'm not scared about that anymore."
