Phone Update

Dec 08, 2012 20:11

So we blew the phone back to factory, and I've started the slow process of adding all the downloaded apps back on. Some of them the data is safe on the SD card or in the cloud; some of them it is lost. Most of what is lost is relatively unimportant ( Read more... )

Well, my knowledge of the Evo is 16 months out of date, but still. For backup, I use MyBackup Pro, which is the only app I've ever paid for.

Some other questions: mostly about the differences between your and Mark's phones:
What OS versions do you have? (Menu, Settings, About phone, Software information - the Android version and the software number)
What apps do you have that Mark doesn't?

It's worth calling HTC support: they may have new tricks in the 16 months since I left. If all else fails, there's a CyanogenMod release for it.

Mark's phone is white and mine is black. :)

My Android Version: 2.3.3, the software number is 4.53.651.1

Mark's Android Version: 2.3.3, the software number is 4.22.651.2

We both have the apps that come with the phone. Then I have a barcode reader, Angry Birds, Color Notes, Shazam, Evernote, DropBox, Google Drive, Sugar Sync (which has been non-functional through the last two reset/reloads) and that is about it. I had the Renovation app and the Chicon 7 app, but did not add them back after the last resets. I have 113 songs loaded on the phone and customized ringtones; Mark has 223 songs, but no customized ringtones.

Mark has Color Notes, Shazam, Evernote, DropBox, Sugar Sync, Chicon 7, FoxFi, Google Skymap, Google Docs, Instagram, Local, NASA, PDANet, QRDroid, Quickoffice Pro, RealCalc, Skype, SwannView, Unit Converter,Wi-Fi finder, Yelp.

They were bought the same day, and activated the same day. I note that there was a problem getting my contacts transferred from my old phone initially.

Current release should be 4.67.651.3 according to http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-evo-4g-sprint/ and the Specs tab.

Call HTC tech support and see if you can force an upgrade. 866-449-8358

Be kind to them: that used to be me.

What would the upgrade be of?

I actually didn't have any trouble until after I tried to update the OS in November of 2011, so I've become leery of that.

This might do you for the battery if you can't find one locally. I've just bought a pair of batteries by this manufacturer for my HTC Thunderbolt, and they seem good.

Thanks, that's certainly a much better price point than the battery and equipment from Sprint.com. We'll be checking Batteries Plus later today, but this is good info to have. Motorcycle Boy said "I might get that for me!"
