For some reason I have become the person who does the rough prep on the walls etc. in advance of painting. I understand why to a certain extent: it is more or less unskilled labour, uses smallish tools, doesn't require massive strength, does require some degree of precision ( Read more... )

Mind you, it is a cheap plastic cake tip and disposable decorating bags, but still, pastry bag and a Wilton round tip. :)

Heidi is the local expert for plaster repairs here, and she too treats it like icing a cake.

BTW -- it's "lath". "Lathe" is a thing that goes around and around and you make lamps and expensive sawdust.

And yes, I suppose it is lath... I shall try and teach that to the spellchecker, and fix it when I have a longer moment. Thanks!

I would not be at all surprised if some of the ghod-knows-what filler substances were toothpaste. That was common wisdom when I was in college for filling the holes that you weren't supposed to put in the dorm walls when you moved out -- partly because you can get toothpaste in colors to match all the industrial pastels that dorms tend to be painted!

It's possible, but I suspect not, given various circumstances. But anything is possible, and no, I would not be surprised either.
