FAQ

1) Where did this idea come from?
It began with quickquote and was part of ff_press for a few months. bottle_of_shine turned it into its own newsletter and replica took over running it, then moffit, and then luscious_sarah.

2) How often is it published?
The editors do their best to see that kh_press is published daily. But of course we are only human, and days will be missed sometimes.

3) What does it cover?
This newsletter has a wide base of topics. We link to these places on livejournal.

  • News: Gaming news, new communities, etc.
  • Fanfiction: New and updated fanfiction is accepted.
  • Art: This includes icons, drawings, whether digital or hand drawn and scanned in, manipulations, pixel art, and the like.
  • Videos: This includes music videos, fandom crack, cosplay videos, interviews, and anything else kh related.
  • Discussions: This refers to pertinent fandom discussions happening on a journal.
  • Reviews: Reviews pertaining to the fandom, such as game reviews or music reviews.
  • Tips & Tricks: New FAQs, game hints. Also includes requests for gaming help.
  • Activities: Polls, surveys, challenges in any community.
  • Advertisements: will advertise communities on LJ, group journals, RPGs, fanlistings, character shrines, etc, as long as there is a livejournal link with that advertisement for us to link to.
  • Other: Pretty much anything else not covered by the above. This includes, but is not limited to: cosplay, fsts, tattoos, plushies, and auctions.

4) What is the best way to get my material included in the newsletter?
  • By having correct headers in front of all your fanwork, for example, things like: title, pairing/characters, rating, summary, warnings (including warnings like AU, incest, etc).
  • By sending the link to kh.press[at]yahoo[dot]com or commenting on any newsletter or the official news notification post with the link.

4a) I commented but my stuff still hasn't been included/added to the watch list! Why not?
It is possible the comment notification didn't go through, or an editor forgot. If there has been an issue published since your comment, please email luscious_sarah at sometimesxsunshine [at] gmail [dot] com and let her know, and she will personally see to it that you are added to the watch list/included in the next issue, provided you are following header policy.

4b) What exactly are correct headers and why should I use them?
As of June 2006, kh_press adheres to a strict header policy; all fiction, art, and vids should have clear headers to be listed on our newsletter. A header goes before your story (outside of an LJ cut). A good example of a header for a story/artwork/vid is this:

Title: Your title here. If you do not have a title, at least specify it as "untitled."
Canon: Which game is it set in, before, or after? Kingdom Hearts I? Chain of Memories? Kingdom Hearts II?
Pairing/Characters: Is it Sora/Kairi, Riku or perhaps Donald, Goofy, Sora? List them and spell them out. Is it a secret pairing? Specify like so: Demyx/?
Rating: Important even if your story is worksafe; MPAA ratings or Fiction Ratings are great. simply stating "work-safe" or "non work-safe" is not enough.

kh_press requires the canon, characters/pairings, and ratings tags in order for material to be listed on the newsletter. Anything that does not have these tags will be skipped. It is not very hard and is something all fiction archives require. Please include headers and help make our job a little easier.

5) Will you link to friends-only posts?
Items that are friend-only are meant to be seen only by the friends or community members the person has listed, which means the majority of our subscribers will probably not be able to see that artwork, story, or discussion. For this reason we will not link to friends-only posts.

6) Your profile says you are livejournal specific; what does this mean?
If you post anything outside livejournal, the only way for us to provide a link to that is by making a post on livejournal (whether in your own journal or a community) advertising it for us to link to. This policy applies to all categories listed above to be fair.

7) Who runs this community?
This community exists and is given its material from the writers and artists. Without them, there would be no reason for this community. You can see a list of all the editors on the profile page (those with posting access).

7a) How can I join this community?
Membership to the community is restricted to the editors, but you are certainly welcome to add this community to your friends list! Simply click here to do so.

8) What if my story/art/etc was listed and I want it removed? What if I want to alter one of my listings? What if I notice an error in a particular listing (broken link, etc)?
Comment on the specific post. It will then be removed/changed.

8a) What if I don't ever want anything of mine listed?
Check to make sure any of your journals/comms aren't on the watch list. If they are, ask us to remove them. Also, you can leave a note in your post asking us not to include it in the newsletter, or you can friendslock the post.

9) Can I affiliate with you?
Yes, of course! Send an e-mail to kh.press[at]yahoo[dot]com with your project and purpose.

10) What is your spoiler policy?
For the purposes of browsing the newsletter, anything in the Kingdom Hearts II categories probably contain spoilers; if you have not finished the game (or the other games, as well) it is probably best to avoid fanworks until you have completed the game(s). The editors will do their best to label everything except fanfiction, but--please protect yourself when browsing the newsletter. Spoiler policy is subject to change over general passage of time.
