THREE RIVERS - the prep

All right. Here I shall have a more detailed post about Three Rivers filming than I posted over on my Facebook. Because I have more to say. lol

Sooooo, yeah! On Monday, after I was at the Heinz History Center in the morning for PALCS (pretty cool - I didn't know that the Heinz 57 really IS just a number that Heinz liked - it has nothing to do with an actual number of products.) I get back to work and see that I have a gmail message.
Now, for about a week, every time I saw I had a gmail, my heart skipped a beat -- wondering, "could it be a cast call?"

Well, when I opened my e-mail and saw the subject, "Three Rivers for Katherine Hughes," I just started going "OMG!"

"Hi Katherine,
Would you be available to be a patient in a hospital scene shooting tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31st, at Brownsville Hospital? We don't have an exact start time yet and won't until the end of the day, but it will probably be 6 am to 6 pm. Can you let me know either way ASAP? The director chose your picture, and you're first choice for this, but if you're not available I need to find someone else.
Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you."

Bear in mind, I had just returned from the History Center, so I had blown off half a day of work on Monday. And it was 3:00 at this point...
and I went, "omg, I *HAVE* to do this. Sure, I'll have to get up at 3 am, but, OMG, I HAVE to do this!"
I realized at some point that my hands were shaking.
So I wrote back, saying yes and asking if it was for one day only. Lissa, the extra casting director (who seems to be a Pgh local -- most people were,) said, if I was available for Wed and Thurs, too, she could use me all three days. I wrote back and said, SURE! - and promptly killed off three personal days (I had them to kill. No worries. lol) I also had a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, buuuut I blew it off. It's scheduled for Friday now.

So Julie was IMing me talking to me about marrying Alex O'Loughlin, and I was telling her not to get ahead of herself... and she was then saying she guessed she needed to return the monogrammed towels. lol.
I couldn't explode at work -- I was actually TRYING to work at work, but it wasn't... working. I couldn't concentrate. Patti, Amy Z and JoAnne were having a phone meeting, so I got up and went to tell guidance. They made fun of me a little for my squeeful love of Alex O, but I didn't really care. I then slowly spread the word through the office.
OMG, I was going to be an extra. I was going to see Alex O'Loughlin. I was *FREAKING OUT.*

So eventually it was time to leave and I came home, got out of the car and promptly jumped up and down and squeed a little. And then I got to freaking out again. lol.

Shortly AFTER that, LAUREN called me to tell me SHE had been cast as an extra on Saturday!!! (and OMG, didn't tell me til Monday!) They were doing a board room scene where Alex comes in and speaks to the board. She was able to walk past the door as he entered, so she possibly got camera time... plus, she got to walk past him.
Three things that stuck out to me in the coming days: one, she said there was a lot of sit-around-and-wait time, two, she said they fed her well, and three... that Alex was "sooooo hot." ... holy crap, I was freaking out.

I didn't hear back from Lissa until 8:30 that I was scheduled to show up at 9:15 the following morning. She said "Please follow the wardrobe instructions below" -- and didn't include any. So I had to write back and ask. She finally got back to me at 9:00 --
"I'm sorry dear, I sent you the wrong instructions--- since I have you all three days, I'm making you a nurse! The below is correct, and can you please reply with your cell # ASAP? Thanks!
All Hospital Employees (Including Pawleys Island, 3 Rivers ICU, 3 Rivers ER, 3 Rivers Nurses & Orderlies):
Please bring medical type footwear. Options include Dansko type clogs, Crocs, White or gray sneakers. Must have a closed toe. Also please wear socks. Please bring white or gray undershirts or tanks. Scrubs will be provided. Please bring multiple options!!!"

So I got an UPGRADE to be a NURSE! Wheeeee!
It was now 9 pm, I knew I'd have to leave the house by 7:30 to get there on time, plus get up in the 6 am hour to get ready to go - which was two hours earlier than my usual 8 am time, PLUS I had been out wandering around the History Center all day, so I was worried about getting to bed and getting adequate sleep.
It was around 9, then, that I realized that my white undershirt that I had just worn to the History Center was one of only two white shirt options I had (I don't own grey - it washes me out.) - so I had to wash that sucker.
At this point, it was getting toward 10 - I was talking to my parents and dad had offered to drive me. Esp. since the directions were from the Omni downtown, but it was more practical for me to go via the Turnpike to get down to Fayette. So I took him up on that.

So then it was 10:00 and I watched most of Castle, in between checking on my white shirt in the laundry.

Two things, then, unrelated -- one, on Sunday, I was talking to Julie on the phone and I was eating some canned pears. I said something about the pears being nice, and Julie thought I said "Iced Pears" -- that sounded delicious, so I immediately looked up recipies online for iced pears. I found one that just said to freeze a can of pears, then put it in a food processor once frozen and add some ginger. I did that, and it was *delicious.* Mmm. Iced pear.
I am also going to try making pear frozen yogurt.

Second thing, when I was home, some guys came to knock on my door and asked "if my mother was home." I was like ".... no." He then went on to apologize and said I looked really young. It was just kinda funny. (of course, I had my PALCS shirt on at the time.) They were from a new church and they were trying to recruit people. The one dude who hadn't spoken to me was snickering at the guy who talked to me behind my back. But, you know, unintentionally belittling me is nooot the best way to get my support ;)

But back on track, I got to bed at probably about 11:30 on Monday.

... I'll post this part as-is - I will post the actual set stuff separately.
