Challenge: [216] Once Upon A Time
Title: Wardrobe Malfunction
Word Count: 415
Warnings: (Accidental) Crossdressing. Set during Days but with no real spoilers. Uses a BBS world, but no spoilers for it.
Summary: Of course, the Organisation used to pride themselves on their ability to subtly blend in with the people of whatever world they were infiltrating. That is, of course, until Roxas and Axel got sent on that one mission to the Dwarf Woodlands...

“No. No. Just no.”

Axel shot him a sideways look that couldn’t have been more obviously amused if he’d tried. Not that Roxas had noticed, of course. He was far too busy staring at his...getup.

“Oh, I dunno, Roxas. I think the bow really sets the whole thing off nicely.”

Roxas’s head snapped up and he stared at him blankly for all of five seconds before a hand went up to pat his hair experimentally. The sight of his eyes widening so far in horror at what he found set Axel off laughing so hard that he almost missed his friend tearing the red ribbon from his head and flinging it away as far as possible.

“Not a word!” It was amazing that he could still hiss threateningly though such tightly clenched teeth. Axel managed to calm himself enough in time to catch Roxas pointing at him. “And don’t you dare tell Xion about this!”

Axel raised his hands innocently. “Hey, chill out, of course I won’t.” He paused for a moment, watching Roxas relax visibly before casually adding, “Wouldn’t want her to die laughing, now would-”

“Axel!”

“Alright, alright!” Axel was grinning wide enough to suggest that all his birthdays and Christmases had come at once. Or enough to hint at a possible relation to a certain cat worlds away in Wonderland.

Roxas groaned, clenching his fists in the flowing material swirling around his legs as he muttered half to himself. “Be subtle, Xemnas says. Try to blend in, Xemnas says. Easy enough for him to say, seeing as I’m the one stuck-”

“It’s really not so b-”

“Axel.” Again with the hissing. It really was a talent. “I. Am. Wearing. A dress.”

Axel looked him up and down as soberly as if considering the most important matter in the universe. He took in the delicate shoes, the sunny yellow skirts, the bright blue bodice and high collar, the vein threatening to burst in his friend’s forehead. Then he nodded sagely and replied with all the calm in the world, “So you are.”

“At least your outfit is halfway normal!” Roxas yelled, gesturing at the ragged black cloak the taller man was shrouded in. “That’s it! I’m never changing outfits again, blending in or not!” With another groan, he hid his head in his hands, letting out a muffled “Why me?!”

“Oh, cheer up.” Axel dug into the basket on his arm and withdrew something, offering it to Roxas with a wolfish grin. “Apple?”
