Challenge: Eyes {218}
Title: These Clothes
Word Count: 315
Notes: Came from a sort of crack-y idea-Pssh, wake up, Xemnas. He's a bit absent-minded right now, I think. I'm poking him to pay attention, but he's not really listening to me. Just kind of staring out the window...
Xemnas pulls the thread tight after weaving countless sublime stitches, hands moving in a slow mechanical melody that plays along the velvet cloth beneath his fingers. Two pieces become one and then this part is finished. One deep sleeve to one sharp-cut shoulder.
Silver charms frame where the heart should be, each cast with bits of protecting magic and flecked with irony. A strong zipper runs up the middle for security, metal teeth drawn tight as any beast's jaws. A deep hood on the back covers the face and halts the sting and slow degrade of the darkness.
All these things adorn a fabric as deep as the shadows they reside in. A fabric that Xemnas himself had chosen and manipulated and turned into these coats with a little learned skill from somewhere he couldn't quite-care enough to remember. Such memories were unnecessary.
For a brief moment of scrutiny, Xemnas' eyes see all the incredible detail and all the unavoidable imperfections in his work. Like his very own minions, right away he sees both unmatched strength and unfathomable weakness, where the slightest misplaced stitch becomes either a tear or a tangle. Where the tiniest specks of light can be found in even the most immaculate darkness.
Their numbers have grown to twelve, now. Twelve beings without purpose or pause. Wild nobodies, all mysterious power and no direction.
In Xemnas' eyes, they are nothing more than tools, needles and thread with which to piece together his perfect world. In his eyes-eyes much older than their host-they are equally necessities as they are liabilities. Each expendable and yet, at the same time, indispensable.
He stitches much more carefully now, using the light of the darkened sky to guide him, his needle. Black thread pulls tight and seam by seam, he's finished yet another part.
And the coat of his thirteenth is that much closer to completion.

...Did I just write Xemnas sewing?
