Inevitability (this could be triggery)

It's raining hard up in here. Snuggled under the covers, I like it.

I have discovered that my definition of when I am 'in' a fandom is slightly different from everyone else. Thinking about this has made me realize: I have some serious, serious control issues, people.

Serious issues )

I sort of know how you feel, fandom wise (not about the physical stuff. I get ridiculously attached to things). I was truly surprised when I realised I'd been in the Inception fandom for a whole year. Usually my fannish interests don't last that long unless there's new resource material to keep me interested. My interest in Inception has only just now finally started to wane, possibly because it's been eclipsed by X-Men for now. My affair with the F&F fandom was really damn brief, even if the movies are my "I'm bored, what do I do to pass the time? OH I KNOW, WATCH SOME F&F!" movies now. I'm sort of really picky about which fandoms are *worth* my time, you know? Like when I first start to get interested, I have to think quite hard about whether this will last more than three months. If not, I'll just lurk mostly ( ... )

It's good to know that someone else is jealously guarding their mental space. It boggles my mind how some people can watch so many shows, like *intensely* follow and be fannish about so many things. I'm right there with you on the icons. If I got new icons that'd be, like, putting a freaking ring on a fandom for me. LIKE PLURAL MARRIAGE, MORMON OLD-SKOOL, EEEEK.

I was in about 11 different fandoms last time I checked. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED. I USED TO BE SUCH AN OTP GIRL. Fandom will eat your life if you let it, but at least you'll enjoy the ride..?

P.S. I just wanna write some D/B and watch a little Teen Wolf. = PERFECT USE OF TIME.

Snerk, glad you approve of my intentions (hint: at the moment, they're just intentions) How much time do you spend on each of your fandoms? Gah, 11!! Wow! Do you just browse whatever you're in the mood for? Or are you, like, active and organized?

I used to be actively involved in 3 or so fandoms-- writing/reading/flailing, etc, but then those fandoms died down and the authors moved away, which happens, I get that, but I'm a possessive sonovabitch and, basically, I wasn't having a bar of it.

So I did what any possibly-less-than-rational person would do and I followed each of the authors I loved over to their next fandoms (and in some cases, the ones after that). So I guess you could say it's not that I'm an active member of 11 fandoms, it's more like I pick and choose the authors I love to read, and don't give up on them just because their tastes have changed and, with luck, the new stuff they're writing for is something that holds my interest.

I probably read a lot less these days than I did when I was deep into my first fandom and devouring everything that was ever posted for that pairing. I definitely try to be a little more discerning these days-- it really wouldn't take much for fandom to overtake my life entirely, so it's probably for the best that I've backed off a

See, I am the hardest person in the world to pimp because I am the hardest person in the world to advertise to. Something has to speak to me emotionally at a very basic level for me to react to it. And of course, you never know what's going to do that....but a good story has better hopes than even the best-made TV show or film, so I can see where a good author would have better luck spreading the love. I should stop being so hard-hearted and thick-skulled and just let the pretty boys seduce me, right?

Is there any chance that this beauty might see the light of day soon? This is me hoping, in case that wasn't clear enough.

I know what you mean, though. I was very hesitant to even read any XMFC fiction, but then I gave in aaaand then I fell into an Avengers fic that I really enjoyed. The fandoms, they are multiplying!

Well, I thought one XMFC story would be enough to purge it, but it desperately wants a sequel which should be done...ah, next week? Err, depends on how much make-up sex is required. (Might be a lot). New fandom: so angsty.

So very excited to read this, and when is loads of make-up sex not required? If we could force everyone on the planet to have make-up sex, world peace would be so easy. Make-up sex, mutants and angst sound like a perfect combination. I can't wait!

I.... don't really get how most fen manage to stick so loyally to just one fandom their whole lives. It's, like, a mystery to me because my brain just does not work that way. Not that I don't have my OTPs and character preferences, I do, I just have them for a whole bunch of fandoms all at the same time. One is just not enough! Multifandomnational and bifictional, baby, as I always say!

Admittedly, I'm the kind of freak who puts most fen to shame with the multifandomness. As in, I have actually lost count how many fandoms I consider myself a part of and actively read/write/beta/watch/squee/whatever for. And when I say lost count? I mean over 80 fandoms -- as of last year. I'm pretty sure I might to be up to a hundred by now. I pick them up like a klepto in a convenience store. Crossovers are my enablers, always luring me into shiny new fandoms with the promise of teh pretteh and ficcy goodness. Ha! It's normal for me to go through about six fandoms in a single reading session, jumping from fic to fic to fic as my interest gets ( ... )

You are a special case, my dear. I have always relied on you to be the most omnivorous, ecumenical fannish butterfly there is. You must read faster than lightning and you do us all a blessing with your recs lists, etc.

I just don't have the emotional wherewithal or strength. It's like I've sacrificed breadth for depth. I just wish I had more time for ALL THE PRETTEH.
